2027 Workshops Are Open (And Leather Binding Is Back)
Every time we open the doors for our in-person bookbinding workshops, we are surprised by just how quickly the fill up. They're usually gone within days and some dates booked out by an entire group all at once. Why do they sell so quickly and so far in advance?
The short answer is that there is only one bindery space, and a limited number I can comfortably fit, all at one time.
What happens in a bookbinding workshop
A typical workshop runs for a full day, a small group, one project, start to finish. You're not watching a demonstration from across the room, you're folding, sewing and gluing your own book, with some demonstrating and lots of guidance if something goes sideways. You get to use the original tools, backing hammers, book presses to name just a couple. At the end of the day you leave with a finished, hand bound book you made yourself, plus a kit and manual so that you can try more on your own.
Who tends to book
It's a real mix. Complete beginners who've never so much as folded a signature. Gift-givers booking a spot for someone's birthday or other occasion. Friend groups, siblings, parent-child pairs looking for an experience rather than another restaurant booking. What they all have in common is wanting to actually make something, and experience it in a live, in person setting.
Why dates go quickly
Because there are so few of them. We run these in between everything else that happens in the bindery and shop. Some months we are too busy. The small class sizes mean that each date only has a handful of spots to begin with.
2027 bookings are open now
Our first round of 2027 bookbinding workshops are now on our website and ready for booking! We may release more later in the year, however this is not a guarantee. You can see what is available live on our website - just selected the date you would like and you can see how many places are left.
Leather Binding is back
This year we're also bringing back our intermediate Leather Binding workshop in the bindery — the first time we've run it since before 2020. It's already most of the way sold out. If you've got the basics down and want to go further, book your spot.
If Bendigo isn't on your radar, or 2027 feels like a long way off
Our beginners online course, the Beginner's Bookbinding Blueprint, teaches the same foundations at your own pace, from wherever you are with no travel required. There is also an intermediate option.
