Why Paper Still Wins

Although we're very 'analogue', we’re not anti-digital. Phones and apps absolutely have their place. But when the pace picks up and everything feels like a blur of tabs and notifications, paper can be a quiet and reassuring.

There’s something steadying about a handwritten list. A pencil marking out the weeks. A calendar you can glance at without unlocking anything.

Writing things down by hand helps us remember — not just the task or appointment, but the intention behind it. It slows the moment, just enough to let it land. Studies have shown it supports memory, mindfulness, and even better decision-making. But we don’t need the science to feel it. We’ve known this instinctively all along.

There’s also a certain relief in being able to see your year in one sweep, plan it out, the birthdays, holidays, work blocks, school terms. It gives shape to your time. You can step back, take it in, and start making space for what matters.

At home and in the bindery, some of the tools we keep close:
• A wall calendar for big-picture planning
• A tear-off list pad for the daily shuffle, and just general brain dumping
• A daily planner, with 'to do' lists, schedules and notes

If the new year already feels like it’s running away with you, a calendar might help you catch up to yourself.
